Are you passionate about animal care and looking to work in a supportive and professional veterinary ? At Family Vet Care of Oakdale, we are currently hiring dedicated Veterinarian Assistants to support our team of veterinarians and veterinary technicians in delivering exceptional care to pets and their families.

As a Veterinarian Assistant, you will play a vital role in clinic. You will work alongside experienced veterinary professionals, assisting during examinations, treatments, and procedures, while helping to ensure both pets and pet owners feel supported and informed. Our ideal candidate is reliable, detail-oriented, and has a genuine love for animals.

Your Role and Responsibilities
The veterinarian assistant provides direct support to veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and fellow assistants by:

Assisting in examinations by obtaining patient histories and aiding during diagnosis and treatment.

Supporting doctors and technicians throughout patient care stages.

Relieving veterinary professionals from administrative and routine technical tasks.

Helping maintain hospital efficiency and ensuring smooth clinic operations.

Communicating clearly and compassionately with clients about their pet’s care and needs.

Core Duties and Expectations

Work your assigned schedule consistently (must maintain at least 98% attendance).

Clock in/out accurately for every shift.

Exhibit professionalism and courtesy at all times—towards clients, team members, and patients.

Handle every patient gently and with respect, regardless of temperament or size.

Stay productive during quiet periods by cleaning, restocking, or finding tasks that enhance clinic operations.

Participate actively in team meetings and training sessions.

Use your own login and initials in the hospital software for accountability.

Enter accurate patient records and maintain confidentiality of client and patient information.

Understand and follow isolation protocols and disease control practices.

Prepare estimates, explain procedures, and discuss costs with clients respectfully and clearly.

Provide top-notch client service by smiling, listening with empathy, and addressing concerns with patience.

Hospital Standards and Team Conduct
Follow all written protocols, hospital policies, and staff training materials.

Be open to learning and adapting to new procedures as veterinary medicine evolves.

Keep a neat, professional appearance—including clean scrubs, shoes, and visible name tags.

Maintain cleanliness throughout the hospital, including parking lots and public areas.

Safely handle animals of all sizes and species—without fear or hesitation.

Adhere to OSHA safety standards and report any injuries like bites or scratches promptly.

Run occasional errands or assist other team members when needed.

Support your colleagues and foster a positive team culture free of gossip or negativity.

Take scheduled breaks responsibly and remain flexible when emergency patient needs arise.

Client Education and Communication
Explain vaccinations, spay/neuter procedures, and preventative care clearly.

Know common pet breeds, coat types, and species we treat.

Answer questions about post-op care, medications, and follow-up procedures.

Handle billing questions or complaints with professionalism and escalate when necessary.

Provide updates on hospitalized pets as directed by the doctor.

Help clients find additional information using trusted veterinary websites or the hospital website.

Never guess—ask for assistance if unsure about a client question or medical matter.

Technical and Clinical Support Skills
Open and close the clinic following daily protocols.

Prepare treatment areas and surgery rooms, ensuring all tools are clean and ready.

Restrain pets safely and kindly during exams and procedures.

Administer SQ and IM injections and oral medications as directed.
