Founded in 1986, Emperor Specialty Foods Ltd is recognized as a leader in the importation and distribution of premium gourmet foods. They began with fresh shiitake mushrooms but expanded their range in 1995 to include mushrooms from China and local sources. By 1998, the company had set a major milestone as the first Canadian company to import fresh mushrooms from China by ocean shipment.
