Epidemiologist (full time) – Forensic Trauma Consultants Inc., 5 Centerpointe Drive, Suite
400, Lake Oswego, OR 97035.
Formulate medico-legal expert reports for cases of medical malpractices, trauma, motor vehicle
crash, injury, product defect, environmental hazards, wrongful death, and medical
negligence. Design of investigation including creating hypothesis, comprehensive review of
scientific literature and summarizing results of the analysis to draw evidence-based conclusions in
the medico-legal expert reports. Application of knowledge of internal medicine and forensic
epidemiology to determine causality. Data management and analysis using nationally
representative data sets from the Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project (HCUP), including
National Inpatient Sample (NIS), Nationwide Emergency Department Sample (NEDS), Kids'
Inpatient Database (KID) and Nationwide Readmissions Database (NRD). Computation of
common epidemiological measures of disease occurrence like incidence & prevalence; strength
of association like relative risks, odds ratios to demonstrate the relationship between exposure and
an outcome; comprehensive review of scientific literature including epidemiological studies, case
reports, systematic reviews. Meticulous review of medical records, expert opinions and
depositions to understand the nuances of varied cases. Requires Master’s degree in Epidemiology
and 18 months of work experience as Research Assistant/Intern or closely related. Understanding
and application of the principles of epidemiology and biostatistics to investigate causal and
noncausal relationships. Clinical medical knowledge at the MD/DO training level, including
background in pathology, diagnosis, medical imaging, pharmacology, and basic medical sciences.
Proficiency in SAS, STATA, SPSS or R, and Microsoft Office Suites. Proficiency in reviewing,
analyzing and summarizing medical and epidemiologic literature and effectively communicating
scientific information in a form and language that is suitable for the target audience. Send resume
