RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Leading and supporting projects to develop melting technologies to improve process performance through yield improvements, higher throughput, and longer system life. Collaborate with design engineers, materials engineers, R&D, and plant operations through different stages of project work.
- Lead and support trials of melting technologies in manufacturing plants. Report and communicate to managers and partners during trials: status, issues, trouble-shooting plans.
- Lead technical assessments and data analyses to find opportunities for process and equipment improvement and to evaluate technology trials.
- Design and implementation of process experiments.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
- We anticipate travel to be 20 – 25%, primarily to Asia and Corning NY.
WORKING HOURS:
- Office hours are typically 8AM-5PM Monday-Friday.
- Evening conference calls with teams in Asia (typically between 8PM – 10PM) are sometimes required. Frequency of these meetings depend on project assignment.
- Weekend work and/or travel is sometimes required
REQUIRED SKILLS:
- 5+ years prior work experience (Glass melting experience highly desired)
- We need you to have a technical curiosity, seeking information needed to become a glass melting expert.
- Strong technical skills with the ability to learn and apply defect formation mechanisms, understanding of heat and mass transfer, and understanding of materials thermodynamics and kinetics.
- Analytical skills – use rigorous data analysis and distill into concise results.
- Problem-solving – ability to handle technical challenges using rigorous, scientific methodology.
- MS Office computing skills (Word, PowerPoint, Excel).
DESIRED SKILLS:
- Glassmaking or other high temperature continuous process experience.
- New product/process development or scale up experience.
- Statistical analysis skills and/or experimental design experience.
- Project leadership skills – vision, planning, and execution.
EDUCATION / EXPERIENCE:
- B.S. in Engineering – Glass Science/Ceramic Engineering, Materials Science/Engineering or Chemical Engineering preferred.
- We prefer an advanced degree in Engineering, but this is not a requirement.
SOFT SKILLS:

- Strong written and verbal communication skills – effectively and efficiently communicate technical work to a broad range of partners
