Scope of Position:
As the Performance Excellence (PEx) manager, you will be responsible for the coordination of all PEx and Lean programs, projects, and activities at the plant. This position establishes, maintains, and measures PEx performance including implementation of PEx/Lean strategy, training, coordination & tracking of metrics, skills development, monitoring of DMAIC projects, activities, and tollgates.
In this role, you will enable processes, quality, and cost improvements by leading and supporting projects and engaging the organization to adopt PEx/Lean tools and techniques for achieving operational effectiveness. This position is also responsible to lead, develop, track, and report the plant Cost Reduction (CR) portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
• PEx/Lean Strategy - develop and implement a 3-year PEx/Lean roadmap and annual plan that aligns with key plant and division manufacturing strategies and vital few objectives.
• Establish, track & report PEx performance metrics as required at the plant and division level.
• Ensure all plant employees are trained in PEx/Lean tools, as appropriate to their job functions.
• This includes a training needs assessment, providing training resources, and assessing effectiveness.
• Provide leadership for PEx improvement programs, awareness training and blitz sessions across the plant.
• Coaching and development of Black Belts and Green Belts in the organization, as needed.
• Plant liaison to corporate and division PEx/Lean initiatives.
• Responsible for the kaizen program success, cultivating a continuous improvement culture in the plant.
• Project leader for key Six-Sigma projects as needed.
• Lean Mfg. – ensure platform VSM’s are established and refreshed annually.
• Sponsor, facilitate or lead key lean projects that move towards the future state VSM direction.
• Identify top key waste elimination opportunities and define, facilitate, lead change using the basic tools and methods of lean mfg.
• Ensure lean awareness and skills refresher training are completed annually for all employees.
• Drive a culture of continuous improvement that leads the plant to achieving 100% participation in PEx and Lean programs on an ongoing basis.
• Develop, track, implement and manage a plant (CR) portfolio that delivers ongoing mfg. cost improvement.
• Maintain CR project portfolio database.
• Collect all CR data and analyze for accuracy.
• Publish CR reports and project portfolio reports.

Supervisory Responsibilities:
• This position will have up to 4 direct reports.

Travel Requirements:
• 10% travel to visit other plants, corporate locations, and vendors.

Required Education:
• Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering, Industrial Management or Manufacturing Technology fields required.
• Master’s degree or MBA would be beneficial, but not required.

Required Years and Area of Experience:
• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in a Performance Excellence / Lean role in manufacturing.
• Minimum 8+ years’ experience in manufacturing environment.
• Progressive experience supervisory/leadership.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Certification in Six Sigma (Green Belt or Black Belt) and/or Lean is required.
• Knowledge of statistical analysis including histogram, Pareto, correlation, hypothesis tests, Statistical Process Control (SPC), Capability analysis and Measurement System Analysis (MSA).
• Applied knowledge in Lean concepts such as value chain, flow, pull and tools commonly used to eliminate waste, including kaizen, 5S, error-proofing, value-stream mapping, etc.
• Applied knowledge of quality engineering principles such as Voice of Customer (VOC), Voice of Process (VOP), risk analysis, control plans, sampling plans, financial performance (verification of cost impact) and good documentation practices.
• Practical knowledge and experience with methodologies utilization.
• Experience in leading teams in meeting continuous improvement goals.
• Excellent team facilitation/leadership skills and teamwork/collaborative style.
• Excellent verbal and written communication, presentation skills.
• Proficiency with key PC software.
• This role needs proficient technical writing skills and proficiency with statistical analysis.

Desired Experience / Qualifications / Skills:
• Experience with SPC Systems (ex; Minitab) is preferred.
• PQA knowledge or training.
• Demonstrated and shown experience in successful PEx/Lean transformation efforts.
