Scope of Position:

The Logistics leader will provide monitoring, analysis, conclusions, and recommendations to strengthen the role within the ambient and cold chain warehousing / distribution operations within the Life Sciences division. You may lead, support, or handle activities in support of those recommendations. Projects/programs under review may also include projects providing enhanced customer experience, strengthened EHS performance within the warehousing/distribution network, and improved workplace environment. You will support site specific goals (Corning owned or 3PL led) or corporate initiatives. In addition, you may assist or lead the execution of projects or programs that are associated with the deployment of the division’s global transformational supply chain and logistics strategies.
This developmental role is intended to enhance the competencies of the logistics lead and provide back-up to the cold chain distribution supervisor. As such, you will direct and handle warehousing/distribution operations to include directing hourly employees, issue resolution/escalation, and fulfillment of established work rules and procedures.

Major Responsibilities and Tasks

Monitor, analyze, and report CLS’s global non-inventory costs (NIC).
Working independently or with GSM/CLS supply chain leadership, finds opportunities and lead/support activities to minimize NIC.
Monitor, analyze and recommend improvements to operational KRIs within CLS warehousing/distribution networks.
Provide situational appropriate operational support for the distribution activities within the cold chain network (3 locations).
Represent the organization for ad hoc, single use, and other low-level agreements such as emergency land/ocean transportation routing, load densities, etc.
Through the directing of hourly workers, will manage the shipping floor operations including incoming shipments, order fulfillment, secondary operations, returned goods, and inventory management.
Will be called upon to resolve/escalate issue preventing the normal warehousing/distribution operations. Such resolution will require interaction with suppliers, both domestic and international, GSM, federal agencies, as well as on-site leadership.
Work collaboratively with GSM, Trade Compliance, and division EHS to improve overall supply chain efficiencies.
You will need a strong working knowledge of local, state and federal, and international guidelines and regulations for the domestic and international shipping of relevant medical device classifications.
You will also benefit from knowledge of the warehousing and distribution operation and equipment sufficient enough to independently initiate cost and service improvements.

Project tasks:

Utilizing Corning and industry standard methodologies provide support and guidance for 3PL operations to strengthen their service metrics and their cost to serve position.
Identify, recommend and support sensible standardization across cold chain distribution network.
Support deployment of cost/service improvement initiatives such as reduction in distribution complaints, minimization in air freight costs, and reduction in safety incidents.

Hours of work/work schedule/flex-time:

M-F, 40 hrs., 8-5 pm day shift.

Travel Requirements:

Limited local travel between 3 facilities within 30 minutes of each other.
North Carolina or Virginia business travel quarterly.

Required Education & Experience

B.S. in Business, Supply Chain Management, Logistics or a related field.
Minimum 5+ years supply chain, logistics or planning experience within a manufacturing or warehousing/distribution operation.
Experience working in a matrix environment or on a cross-functional team.
Ability to provide leadership and direction to hourly workforce.
Competency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Experience in time sensitive operations and close adherence to daily/weekly deadlines.
Prioritization and problem-solving skills.
