Java app servers, content management, Web services, search, Web security, performance, scripting, Web 2.0 community software, and all the other fun things that Web systems people do . We design, implement, and support these and other cool technologies, working interactively with our programmers, designers, marketers, and technology groups to bring company’s products to the world. The position is for a mid career self starter who's interested in taking ownership of an area of Web technology and making it happen in a consensus driven environment. You'll need good UNIX skills , be able to program/script in shell, Perl, PHP, Python, etc. and most importantly, a big picture understanding how systems work together on the Web. This is a Web systems admin position not Web design, Web applications programming, help desk, or back room systems admin. Typical activities include configuring a load balancer, figuring out why someone's Java app is crashing the app server, teaching some people how to use a wiki, finding security holes in a Web application, debugging why a new HTML page is really slow, responding to a text from a search crawler that's gotten gummed up, reviewing a new Java application design for scalability issues, conducting a vendor evaluation of content delivery networks, and coding up a great new tool to automate your team's work. You will also provide 24X7 support for the site as part of an on call rotation. Requirements: BBA or BS in MIS, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field 3 years UNIX systems administration ( Red Hat Linux or Solaris preferred 2 year Web server administration (Apache or other), J2EE application server experience strongly preferred (Oracle AS, Weblogic, Websphere, or JBoss/Tomcat) Intimate knowledge of HTTP/HTTPS protocols , and strong familiarity with other Internet protocols Knowledge of other web concepts such as FTP, firewalls, caching, DNS, and proxies Scripting ability in Perl, bash, PHP, Python , and/or a similar language Highly Preferred but Not Required.
